Which engine is more environmentally friendly: gasoline or gas?

Gas is more environmentally friendly.

Gasoline mainly consists of hydrocarbon molecules containing 4-12 carbon atoms and, respectively, 10-26 hydrogen atoms. Combustion produces 9 molecules of carbon dioxide for every 10 molecules of water: CO2/H2O = 0.9.

Liquefied natural gas consists of short hydrocarbons, mainly from methane (CH4) to propane (C3H8). Since it has more hydrogen, the CO2 share in the exhaust is reduced: CO2/H2O = 0.7.
